IT in Healthcare and Lifesciences
Care delivery organizations have adopted and implemented IT systems for some time now. The current decade stands testimony to the phenomenal spurt in IT investments made by the healthcare industry. However, the big question is whether the industry has been able to leverage the potential of IT in providing superior value to its end customers even while complying with the ethical and regulatory requirements that it is festooned with.
Superior value can be delivered if three vital conditions are met. First, the industry should align its business processes with existing regulatory policies such that it is not hauled up for non-compliance during the care delivery process. Second, it should harness the potential of IT through collaborations with different stakeholders. Third, it should aim at transformation through innovation and by adopting the latest technologies to keep pace with the dynamic environment in which it operates in. The focus of this special issue of SETLabs Briefings is thus on compliance, collaboration and transformation.
IT has helped mitigate compliance risks to a large extent. But has it been able to contain cost of compliance? Has it succeeded in improving the quality of compliance? Has it succeeded in improving the quality of compliance? Our researchers suggest a framework that discusses the importance of adopting a unified IT compliance solution to answer these questions.
Recent developments in genetic research have brought about a big transformation in the business models of the healthcare insurance industry. Historic risk analysis tools are no longer robust. Each individual is different and has a unique health history. Health insurance companies can now migrate to designing insurance packages for each individual, based on her genome data, assert our researchers.
